  • History Panel on Agassiz, Boston and Calumet Copper

    Michigan Tech's Copper Country Archives, Harvards's Agassiz Museum of Comparative Zoology, the Keweenaw National Historical Park and CLK Schools invite you to attend a brief History Panel on Agassiz, Boston and Calumet Copper.

    Thursday, August 18th from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at the CLK Schools Commons.

  • THE BIG ONE FIFTY CELEBRATION BEGINS

    COME AND CELEBRATE CALUMET TOWNSHIPS HERITAGE BY MEETING YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS AT A COMMUNITY DANCE IN AGASSIZ PARK ON FRIDAY AUGUST 19. MUSIC WILL BEGIN AT 5:00 WITH THE DAVE POMROY BAND AND THE VARIATIONS PLAYING UNTIL 8:00 WITH THE NINE 0 SIX BAND PLAYING FROM 8:00 UNTIL 11:00. FIREWORKS WILL FOLLOW THE DANCE.
    THE CALUMET ELKS WILL SUPPLY THE BEER GARDEN.

  • THE BIG ONE FIFTY CELEBRATION - DAY 2

    THE GREAT DEER CHASE WILL KICK OFF THE DAY BY STARTING OUR PARADE AT 11:00. AFTER THE PARADE JOIN YOUR FRIENDS ON 5TH STREET WHERE OUR MANY LOCAL TALENTS WILL BE SELLING, FOOD, CRAFTS, SOUVENIRS ETC. THERE WILL BE GAMES FOR THE KIDS, MUSIC THROUGHOUT THE FESTIVITIES, WALKING TOURS, COOKING CONTEST..TO NAME JUST A FEW ACTIVITIES.

  • Up From Under Calumet Geoheritage Tour

    Join the Isle Royale & Keweenaw Parks Association on a three-hour mini-coach tour focusing on the geological features that are key to understanding the cultural and economic history of copper mining in and around Calumet. Noted local geologists and geoheritage advocates Bill Rose and Erika Vye will guide us as we explore history and geology and how they worked together to create the Copper Country. Sites to be visited include the Centennial #6 mine, Calumet Lake, and locations where the Calumet conglomerate can be identified. The tour is part of IRKPA's annual membership meeting that is open to the public. Space is limited. Cost is $15 for IRKPA members, $20 for non-members.
